First kite and board

Im sure this question has been aked alot before-but ive started with a 12m convert to learn on and now need a smaller kite.ive been told a 9m-(convert )would be a good choice and should be all i need.Is that good advice.Also board choice is bewildering-would a 140 x 40 be a good starting point or could i go a bit smaller.im 78kg.

At your weight you could learn on anything 130 upwards aslong as it 40+ wide, it would just be easier on the bigger boards.

How tall are you? board size is suprisingly as much on hight as weight.

Do you still have the 12m Covert, or was this a school kite?

I'd go for a 7m with the 12 if you only intend to own 2 kites.

Im about 5 10.
im keeping the convert 12-iliked it but at my level would i know if it was crap.What i can say for sure is that the relaunch was a doddle as long as therewas enough wind.
12m down to 7m- sounds like a big jump to me.Areyou sure about that.??
To me boardchoice is bewildering at my level-i dont want a board i will grow out of to quick and i dont wanta board that will be to hard to use-how about an fone fluid 4 135x39-these seem to be available at a reasonable price.

Boards

At your height and weight I would say that you should be aiming to end up on about a 134 by 40.
You havn't said what stage of learning you are at but as said a bigger board will speed up your learning, you could go as big as 145 or 150 by at least 40 without this hindering progession for a long time.
I always recommend getting a cheap large board (with a fair amount of flex, not much rocker, squareish tips if u got flat water, more round if choppy) and only selling it on (to get what u really want) when you can comfortably stay upwind and are thinking about first jumps, carve-gybing, ridding toe side etc.

Kites

The only problem with getting a smaller kite is that it will encourage you to go out in winds that are too much too early.
I would therfore say that a 7m is def too small and a 9m (lowest 8m) is more appropiate.

There is nothing wrong with getting the same kite as u have but its always recommended to try as many as poss first. A good starting place for u would be to try the cabrinha switchblade (its the same brand as your convert therfore u should be able to use the same bar and buy kite only, and its a good kite, still beginer friendly but u certainly won't outgrow it, also plenty of depower, easy relaunch etc)

The winter (now) is a good time to buy kit and get good deals.
