Your kite is way to high giving you a upright stance like a beginer that makes the board bounce around and stopping you from locking in, when coming in though the chop its easier to have the kite low so you can get your body lower putting all the power though the rail and try and get more weight on the front foot to keep the nose from bouncing up.
Glad you like the board lets hope for some good winds.
To be honest it was far from good conditions to try a new board the only flat water was in a small lagoon which he hit the sand bank when trying to stop
As Davo and I have said more weight forward and bear off the wind more You have a great spot to get some fast runs in See you next time hopefully I will be back on the water then Had a chat with the surgeon last week only 50% mobility now at best 80% in a year
To tell the truth Dave I was apprehensive about going full tilt on the chop and directly towards the beach, the wind was not good nor was the sea state and the board is just so tuned for one purpose it took some riding. I think I've been spoilt down at Roa and Foulney Island. Just waiting for the right wind and time off to get to the flat water spot now to get a real test but the board is feeling like it wants to be fast.
Looks like chipmunk's having fun in Sharm, latest track on sportstracklive is 31.70 knots top speed. Had a feeling he wasn't going to wait until the doctors said it was OK. Nice one Mike, I think you took the wind with you, there's been nothing here since you were in Barrow a couple of weeks ago.
Thought I would introduce myself on the thread as I'm hoping to do a bit more speed sailing this year.
I picked up my GPS and got an old board from Rob Munro last year - got a few practice runs in to try it out and promptly buggerd by Neck the following week wiping out on my surfboard - so haven't tried speed runs since. Neck is better now so waiting for some wind to get out on the speed board again.
Definitely will be looking for a few tips as its clearly not as easy as it looks (not that it looks that easy..). Try as I might i could not get above 27 - 28 kts in around 20 of wind. I can get exactly the same speed or even a bit more on my surfboard - so obviously haven't got the speed board working properly yet. I'm quite heavy - so worried its maybe too small for me.
First question... Getting back up wind. Bit of a mission - in the end the only way I could keep the board from catching the edge when going backwards was to wax the top of the board and take my front foot out of the straps and put it closer to the other foot to get better balance on the board. Is there a technique I'm missing for getting back up wind? I will post some pickies of the board in the next day or so as well if you wouldn't mind giving me your thoughts on whether its going to be ok or not.
My ambition is to see if I can get good enough to go up to luderitz later this year - not sure how realistic that is - but maybe worth a go.
Sundowner welcome to speedsurfing, new to it myself and really enjoying it. Just one thing, don't get chipmunk to make you a board it jinxes the wind for a month Last time I was on the water was the day he delivered it and that was about a month ago, the rest of the world are racking up speeds on the GPS site and we're stuck in a time warp waiting for wind. Hope Egypt went well Mike, it looks like you're getting back up to speed or are you paying for it now?
No that forecast was 3 days ago and unfortunately as usual for the last 2 months the forecast changed dramatically and we had ankle deep snow and about 6mph of wind. Wed is now looking good, fingers crossed, I'm supposed to do 2 central heating supplies a day and got 1 booked in but I have a feeling no-one else is going to be in on Wednesday afternoon so I'll have to finish early
